Midnight Practice

It is 4:20a, and I am sitting in the Labor and Delivery ward of Cottage Hospital, waiting for Dr. Green to answer his page.

Toby woke me up at 2:10a this morning, saying, ‘come on, we’re going to the hospital.’
She has been having a lot of cramping for about a month, but it has been increasing in intensity in the last few days. Last night, it got to the point where she thought that it might be early labor.
So we got dressed and woke up the kids. Toby had me stuff a slanket, a regular pillow, and a big ‘body’ pillow into a garbage bag. She wanted to be prepared.
We dropped the kids off at our friends, the Allens. (I really appreciate their enthusiatic willingness to be the middle of the night go-to guys for the kids)
We arrived at the ER and had the van valet parked (thanks to a shortage of parking due to construction)
Once in the ward, Toby hasn’t shown any signs of labor, so we are headed home. She will call back later today to get the results of some lab work.
